    [About the wine].

A Riesling with a classic style for casual enjoyment. The wine's name, Bruno, comes from the name of the founder of the monastery, the Carthusian Order of Carthusians, where the winery originated. It has a fresh, grapefruit, yellow peach and green apple aroma with a hint of sweet spice. It has a juicy fruitiness and a very well-balanced taste. Enjoy it as an aperitif or with mild Asian dishes such as grilled sea bass, sushi, sashimi, marinated seafood, and vegetable couscous.

Harvested in early October, all grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed. In the cellar, there is as little manual intervention as possible. There is no fining, all natural settling, and only sulfur addition.

The bright light yellow color sparkles in the glass.

    About the winery.

The eighth oldest winery in the world, Carthoiserhof is a fairytale looking winery located overlooking the majestic Louver Valley. 1335, Elector Balduin of Luxembourg established a monastery for the monks of the Carthusian Order. In 1335, Luxembourg's Elector Balduin founded a monastery for the Carthusian monks, and the winery has been passed down through seven generations of the Carthoiserhof family. The leading gourmet magazine Gault & Millau has awarded the 2019 Rising Star Award to Kaltwieserhof, whose VDP-rated Rieslings have won the hearts of the judges and earned this venerable award. He said that he was once again convinced of the greatness of the region's wonderful terroir and the tradition of Riesling, and was determined to pursue quality further.

o A winery that looks like a castle in the woods from a fairy tale

Since its establishment in 1811, the Kaltwieserhof has been passed down from generation to generation within the family. The current owner, Alberto Böhler, is the seventh generation of the Leonardi/Rautenstrauch/Tyrell/Böhler family to keep the international reputation of the Kaltwieserhof alive for the past 200 years. Few companies have such a long history. There are only 80 companies in the world that are older than the Kalthäuserhof, and of those, only seven are wine-producing regions.

Historic wineries are home to many old vintages.

Each Kaltwieserhof wine has a single neck label (the trademark small flag) on the bottle.

Legend has it that Karl Wilhelm Lautenstrauch preferred to use the fresh spring water from Eitersbach, which runs right by his garden pavilion, to chill his wines. However, the labels on the bellies of the bottles would get wet and come off, making it difficult to tell which bottle contained which wine, which was always a problem, so he decided to put the labels only on the banderole at the neck so that the labels could be seen even while the wine was being chilled.

The trademark small flag shows the coat of arms of the Kartheuserhof and its symbol, the monkey. The animal was placed in the coat of arms by St. Bruno of Cologne, the founder of the Carthusian order. St. Bruno was called to the papacy in the 11th century, but he did not feel at home in the Eternal City and eventually settled in Calabria, where he met and came to revere the monkey.

Beautiful stained glass with his trademark monkey.

The Devonian slate in the soil plays an important role in the strong mineral content. As the slate weathers, it releases iron minerals because it is a very soft and heat retaining material. In the process, the vine absorbs important elements such as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, as well as many other trace elements, which are passed on to the grapes in high concentrations. The soil of the Kalthäuserhof contains clay veins in addition to slate, which allows it to retain water efficiently.

Culthäuserhof wines have a great variety of aromas, ranging from tropical fruits to pronounced minerality. This is due to the balance of elements that our vines need to thrive.

A unique terroir rich in minerals
