Special extra virgin olive oil
Greece is the No.1 country in terms of annual per capita consumption of olive oil.
In fact, Greece is the country with the highest annual per capita consumption of olive oil.
This is a very special extra virgin olive oil with no unpleasant taste and a burst of olive freshness.
It has the peppery flavor of fresh green olives with a bitter almond aftertaste, and is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants.
Spoon it over tomatoes, leafy salads, steaks, and pasta to further enhance the flavor. This olive oil is also great with fish and grilled chicken.
You can enjoy the taste of fresh green olives.
Kalamata is the second largest city in the Peloponnese. The Venetian Republic took control of Kalamatain 1685, during which time the city was fortified and the economy of the city developed.
After traveling in search of the best olive oil, Gaea found Kalamata.
The region of Kalamata, P.D.O., is located in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese.
Its vast olive groves overlook the Ionian Sea and are the birthplace of the world's most popular olive variety, Koroneiki. The fresh, blue, hand-picked Koroneiki olives are used to produce a very well-balanced olive oil with a peppery, almond aftertaste.
Kalamata is also an important port city
In the mid-1990s, Greece was producing a variety of top-quality foods due to its fertile soil and excellent climate, but it was difficult to find Greek products in the international market. GAEA was founded in 1995 with a vision to spread the high quality and taste of Greek produce internationally.
Gaea is a goddess in Greek mythology and is considered to be a symbol of the earth. Gaeia's mission is to bring to your table delicious and healthy olives and olive oil nurtured by Gaeia, the goddess of the earth.
The depth of flavor is best appreciated when used with simple bread.
The Power of Olive Oil
GAEA funded a clinical trial using olive oil at the University of California, Davis, Department of Nutrition and the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center.
This is the world's first human study to show that high quality extra virgin olive oil, rich in oleocanthal, has the potential to protect the heart through inhibition of thrombus formation, thus reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) contains a variety of compounds, the relative abundance of which varies among olive varieties.
In this study, we examined whether consuming about 3 tablespoons (40 mL) per day of various EVOOs containing equal amounts of phenol could inhibit platelet aggregation. The results showed that oils rich in oleocanthal significantly inhibited platelet aggregation. The Greek Koroneiki extra virgin olive oil was shown to have relatively more of this effect than other EVOOs.
