古代ギリシャ神話では、オリンポスの神々の父であるゼウスが、父クロノスに王位を奪われないように自分の子供を食い殺すことから、
母レアがクレタ島に避難するのを助けてくれたとき、アマルティアは母乳を与えてくれたヤギです。
ある日、ゼウスはアマルティアと遊んでいて、誤ってその角を折ってしまい、
ゼウスはヤギの機嫌を損ねないよう神通力を発揮し、ヤギの角からいつも商品が豊かに溢れ出るようにしました。
